Back in the late ’70s I spent a lot of time at the local library, especially during the summer. Besides story time in the children’s section, the best library activity was movie time. Since this was before VCRs or DVDs or Blu-Rays or streaming, the staff would hook up a projector and run films for all of us kids.
We typically watched cartoons or whatever cheesy movie was available. But one day everything changed when something in another part of the galaxy came to town.
My brothers, cousins, and I loved it. Our favorite movie was being made fun of and we couldn’t get enough. Jokes like the Harrison Ford character called “Ham Salad” or Chewbacca portrayed as the Cookie Monster were comedy gold.
Long before Spaceballs, Hardware Wars the pinnacle of Star Wars humor. In many respects it’s still the best fan film ever made.
